{"id":15853,"date":"2011-11-03T21:31:27","date_gmt":"2011-11-03T21:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.barrett.net\/?p=15853"},"modified":"2020-08-19T15:21:03","modified_gmt":"2020-08-19T20:21:03","slug":"barrett-success-for-homeland-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barrett.net\/2011\/11\/03\/barrett-success-for-homeland-security\/","title":{"rendered":"Barrett Success for Homeland Security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States Department of Homeland Security, under its Customs and Border Protection Service, scored a major hit with a Barrett rifle on Thursday, October 27<sup>th<\/sup> in South Florida.\u00a0 Agent Nelson Marchland said that 14 people were captured, eight of whom are known criminals, as they tried to enter the country illegally by boat.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cWe had a tip that the boat was headed to our shores with illegal aliens and contraband on board.\u00a0 Operating during the nighttime hours from a Blackhawk helicopter, we followed them as they approached American waters at a high-rate of speed.\u00a0 The operator did his best to evade us by making unusual maneuvers with the boat through the water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were required to identify ourselves and fire warning shots, but the boat kept moving.\u00a0 Being trained with the Barrett M107, I was able to hit one of the boat props to disable the vessel.\u00a0 They allegedly threw the contraband overboard during our pursuit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe arrested the operator and his assistant, who were charged with smuggling illegal immigrants into the country.\u00a0 Eight of those arrested had criminal charges already pending against them.\u00a0 Our mission was accomplished without causing personal injury to any of the accused thanks to the Barrett rifle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marchland added, \u201cTo my knowledge, this is a first for our division under Homeland Security.
